DAPHNE GUINNESS EXHIBITION

{ Comments 1}

While there have been many exhibitions devoted to great fashion designers, only a few have focused on individual women of style. Yet certain singular women play a crucial role in fashion. Known as fashion or style icons, they are a special type of fashion insider, one who not only inspires designers and brings their clothes to life, but actually creates a look that affects the way other people dress and/or think about dressing.

Daphne Guinness, one of today’s most original fashion icons, is the subject of the upcoming exhibition Daphne Guinness at The Museum at FIT. Opening on September 16, 2011, and on view through January 7, 2012, the exhibition will feature approximately 100 garments and accessories from Guinness’s personal collection, plus films, videos, and images of and by her.

From her platinum-and-black striped hair to her towering ten-inch heels, from her to-die-for couture collection to her amazing jewelry, Daphne Guinness completely embodies the rarified personal style of a fashion icon. “She is one of the—if not the—most stylish women living,” says designer and film director Tom Ford. Her fans in the blogosphere describe her as “the ultimate fashion fantasy.”

Fashion’s Mostra – Venice Film Festival 2009

{Comments 0}

A special “style lounge” will be opened at this year’s Venice Film Festival to showcase short films made by fashion designers and design houses.
The films to be featured include Designer-turned-director Tom Ford’s very first movie A Single Man.
Tom Ford’s movie, starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode and Nicholas Hoult, will premiere on Sept. 11, closing the festival as the final film.
The other fashion films to be screened at the Venice Film Festival include Edoardo Winspeare’s Les Noces de Papier for Louis Vuitton; La Scarpa by Andrea Rovetta for Ferragamo, and Paris-Moscou by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel.

Though Tom Ford’s first feature film will be screened in the main competition, the others won’t be entered for the festival’s main The Golden Lion Award prize. They will be shown alongside the film industry’s most promising Oscar contenders.

Tom Ford’s film is set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the peak of the Cuban missile crisis, and tells the tale of a British professor struggling after the death of his longtime partner. According to Ford’s production company, “The story is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.”

Tom Ford has chosen one of his close friends, Grammy-winning singer Erykah Badu, to feature in this stunning black & white ad for his scent. The bottle, just as beautiful as Ms. Badu, is made of sculpted white opal, trimmed with 23k gold. “The Bohemian spirit of patchouli gives it a mysterious power,” says Ford. Sounds like Erykah and Tom are a perfect match.
