Borba Margo

In Borba Margo’s approach, there is the constant quest for innovation. The designs are always looking for the now and tomorrow, even if they are inspired by historical or classical references. Throughout the time, with the signature style evolving and maturing, the key elements stay the same: modern proportions, the interplay of construction and new shapes, illusory play and inspiration. Sometimes it is the material that triumphs, other times it is the shape. For Borba Margo, to date, shape has been heart and consequently the victor but for this season the duo has re worked their previous striking shapes, grounding and  reassuring the label‘s signature, and shifted their focus to the surface. With a starting point of close up photographs representing 15th century stained glass of religious murals, Borba Margo collaborated with print/textile designer Ricardo Matos to develop and produce a series of silkscreen prints. These were then examined through digital photography and reworked into abstract design compositions. By combining the manual print technique of screen printing, flock transfer and laser cutting – depending on the individual imagination – these compositions began to resemble animal prints, paint splashes and burn holes.

The newly employed processes has added a new layer to the surface both as a texture as well as configuring a new meaning to existing shapes which has re emerged with a new presence. A luxurious leather’s selection which includes fine leather nappa in a sober colour palette in different shades of dark; dark brown, dark burgundy, dark navy, dark brown and black, where prints being mostly tone on tone create a subtle play of light and shade with the exception holding a vibrant crimson texture print.

The look of the collection is sensual, simultaneously sculptural and tactile. The ideas are modern but possess a classical feel and a fantasy quality; they are pieces that you can live with. The production of Borba Margo has been re located to Italy. The majority of the pieces are now being exclusively ready made to a superior quality by highly skilled artisans in a factory on the outskirts of Venice.

Fleet Ilya has become renowned for employing cleverly utilitarian and creative concepts to produce high quality leather goods.  It is the combined creative effort of Ilya Fleet and Reshna Sharma. for this autumn winter, The skeletal theme is carried over into a selection of bags and clutches.  Rendered in soft black leather and brass, these bags conjure up the feeling of being armoured while remaining extremely feminine in their appeal.  Ilya Fleet upholds his constructivist priority with this collection: all detailing is kept to a minimum in order to emphasize the strong sculptural sensibility of his designs, and even the most extravagant items are cleverly functional and extremely user friendly.

Borba Margo

Borba Margo is derived from the combined names and efforts of Anderson Borba and Jessika Margo Goransson.  And while, like any collaboration, their work represents a meeting ground of two individuated aesthetics and backgrounds, the synthesis is anything but a compromise.
Their design approach is highly intellectual, with a tendency toward the avant-garde.  They often play with proportion and utility in surprising and surreal ways, as to subvert with the surety of our expectations, while suggesting new ways of approaching objects.  This could be anything from a handbag with a giant safety pin handle, a belt with an excess of buckles, or a bag that zips up into a square.
And while Borba Margo’s creations always confound the general banality of women’s accessories, they do so with a skill and maturity that makes them highly covetable designer items.  The result of their material explorations always yields accessories that are supremely sleek, bold, sexy, and original.

Anna Vince – New Collection – AW08 Collection

Inspired by the intricate lacquered boxed so integral to Japanese design Anna Vince has created ‘Kyoto 54′ – a collection of leather accessories that marry heritage with innovative design resulting in must-have pieces that are both stylish and covetable.

On delicate belts and precision cut clutches details taken from Japan’s oldest artforms create textures and silhouettes to delight the eye and excite the touch. Origami pleating and folds ripple across patent surfaces whilst Japanese knotting and quilting add depth to crackled and burnished metallic leather. In a sensual palette of glossy blacks, lusciously dark berry red, gleaming bronze and hard-as-nails graphite. This season also sees the introduction of larger totes bags and shoulder bags.
