” Wildly feminine, cheerful, seductive and wicked at the same time. Nimbly hopping between art, fashion and illustration, the English multidisciplinary artist Julie Verhoeven (1969) has built up quite a reputation for herself over the past few years.
Her work adorns fabrics from Versace and accessories from Mulberry. It makes reference to surrealism and Schiele, to name but a few influences. And although her surname perhaps suggests otherwise, Verhoeven is English in heart and soul, almost to the point of eccentricity.
As from November 13th, Julie will be bending MU totally to her will, transforming De Witte Dame into a feminine cross between a latex cabinet of  curiosities, a Victorian boudoir and a stencilled punk bunker.

The core of Verhoeven’s work are her drawings. Not just sensual and beautiful, but also tragic femmes fatales populate her creative world. Some display a hint of Beardsley, while others have a blatant Vogue stare or a constructivist physique.
Allusions tumble over one another, easy enough to find for those who care to look. Blaring pop music and fashion, paintings and interiors, hairstyles and films, anything can nourish Verhoeven in her search for inspiration.

Verhoeven likes her women to humorously meddle with the boundaries of aesthetics, because underneath, destruction grows rampant. With a mischievous pen and a lick of paint, she reveals the deeper layers in a raw manner, in the best traditions of punk. ”

On the occasion of the exhibition, MU will publish ‘A Bit of Rough’, a book dedicated to the work of Julie Verhoeven. This publication includes an essay by critic Francesca Gavin.

Eighth Veil is a new contemporary art space and publishing house in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Tonight is the opening of its inaugural exhibition : Charlie Foxtrot, a series of photo montages and drawings by artist Daniel Newman, illustrating “the cultural amnesia of a society obsessed with the figure and representation”.

“Eighth Veil will provide artists with residencies to develop and oversee the creation of printed matter, as well as host a rotation of exhibitions and events. ”

The opening reception is happening tonight, April 10th, from 6 to 9pm.

Art meets Fashion meets Art! The new Interview  magazine is featuring Marc Jacobs wearing Andy Warhol’s iconic wig on its cover. Very striking. The late “Pop Art priest” and the prolific fashion designer both share a fascination for pop culture that is at the core of the contents of Interview, which was created by Andy Warhol in the late sixties.

Photographer Tim Gutt and Art director Shona Heath have chosen B Store in London to show their latest project, “Previous Arrangements”.
The clothes featured in Previous Arrangements were selected from designer Peter Jensen’s archive. Tim Gutt and Shona Heath say that they are particularly attracted to Peter Jensen style. They have already incorporated his clothing in their previous work. To quote them, Peter Jensen’s clothes “seem to celebrate a cinematic iconography, they enhance narratives and they bring the cast to life. His pieces are beautiful, timeless and courageously simple.”

An earlier collaboration in 2006 between Gutt, Heath and Jensen created a stereoscopic photo story shot in Central Park, New York for a 3-D View-Master. Rarely seen in the intended format, the piece will also be exhibited with Previous Arrangements for the duration of the exhibition.

Tim Gutt is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Arts in the Netherlands, his work often resists categorization as it shifts between the spheres of art and fashion. His recent exhibitions include Inner City at Claire de Rouen Books, London and Case Study at Plymouth Arts Centre. His work is featured in a range of publications for clients as diverse as the Henry Moore Institute and The Pet Shop Boys, while his editorial work features in French Vogue, Art Review and Another Man.

Shona Heath unique sensibility has led to some of the most visually arresting fashion editorials of recent years, most notably in Italian, British and American Vogue as well as Another Magazine and Dazed & Confused. She works with a range of photographers who include Nick Knight, Craig McDean, Tim Walker and Serge Leblon.

Collaborative projects between Gutt & Heath have been published in Kilimanjaro, 032c, British Vogue, Beaux Arts, and Dazed & Confused.

Tonight Riflemaker will host a special live performance “Mouth Off !” by Russian artist Andrey Bartenev.
If you can’t make it you still can view th exhibition at the gallery until March 11.
If you work or walked through Soho recently, you must have probably noticed the strange and hypnotic art installation in the windows of Riflemaker on Beak street.
Pay them a visit, it is interesting!

Bartenev’s ‘glass discotheque’ depicts a lake of mirrored light spheres with the words “connection lost” circling in endless orbit. A tiny heart planted inside each one symbolizes the frustration that awaits us all in this world of virtual and passive communication. The message endlessly reproduces itself within it’s virus-like blur; a whirl of letters and mirrors creating its own new connective structure. This microcosmic dancefloor, on which the revellers are almost touching yet still dance alone, becomes a metaphor for the alienation of today’s virtual, simulative communities. Disco-nnexion will be remixed at Riflemaker from December 2007 through February 2008.

London-based gallery IBID Projects started “Judith”, a series of projects curated by Vita Zaman (one of the gallery’s director).
The first commission has been created by RCA graduate and artist Anthea Hamilton, whose installation work has already gained some genuine interest in the art world. For “Judith” the artist created two almost surrealistic necklaces, “Brass Egg Necktie (Necklace)” and “Copper Lip Nipple Necklace (Bespoke)”.

Christian Louboutin, one of the world’s most fetishised shoemakers, has just collaborated on a photo series with David Lynch, one of the world‚ most fetishistic filmmakers. The resulting photographs are quite astounding: nothing short of nihilistic, mysogynistic, absolutely stunning pictures that are, in fact, fetish-inducing pieces of art in their own rite.

The exhibition shows five limited edition pairs of shoes by Louboutin alongside five signed photographs of the shoes by Lynch.
