Jourdan Dunn – the black “it” girls of the moment

vogueitalia-dunn.jpg

Style.com has named London native Jourdan Dunn among its list of Top Models for the Fall 2008 ready-to-wear season. She made news earlier by becoming the first black model in TEN YEARS to walk for Italian fashion giant Prada.

Ms. Dunn and Chanel Iman seemed to be the black “it” girls of the moment. Hopefully they will also get the much needed support of fashion magazine editors and photographers to boost their respective careers to the next level. I’d hate to see either woman’s career taper off the way former “it” girl Gerren Taylor’s did.

The 17 year old beauty was also seen on runways for Louis Vuitton, Zac Posen, and Dries Van Noten among others.

Scott Stephen – ‘Couture’ jewellery

When looking at Scott Stephen’s ‘couture’ jewellery, you would never guess that he hails from the chilly Scottish city of Dundee. Equal parts exotica, frivolity and Bohemian chic, his luxury trinkets are more high fashion than highlands, yet it was his homeland’s rich textile history that originally launched him on his current path.

Scott Stephen- Spring Summer collection 08

Born in 1978, he gained a BA in Printed Textiles from Duncan of Jordonstone College of Art in Dundee in 2000 and headed to Milan to create couture fabrics for the likes of Gaultier and Dior.
Limited by his clients’ briefs and searching for a creative outlet, he began constructing new jewellery pieces from remnants of Chanel tweeds and boucles. Liberty bought the entire first collection and his label has grown dramatically since, handcrafting each of his pieces with materials such as netting, glass, wood, leather and traditional Scottish Harris tweeds.
Subsequently, he has collaborated with Dries Van Noten and Swarovski. ‘I gather materials and push them beyond their conventional characteristics. I’m rarely happy with each component unless I’ve spent hours creating it.’

His jewellery has been featured in the best publications worldwide:
W magazine, French Vogue, Italian Vogue, Russian Vogue, Brazilian Vogue, Vogue Nippon, Nylon, Numero, I-D, Pop, New York Times magazine, Purple, Tank, Financial Times, ……

The collection is also available from the best shops around the world. Soon his website will be online, I can’t wait to see it.

Sandrina Fasoli

We just received the cute look book of Sandrina Fasoli. She forms a creative duet with Michael Marson. Both graduated from the École nationale des Arts Visuels de la Cambre, Sandrina and Michael have their own vision of fashion: a very special approach based on unveiled femininity and melancholic innocence.
Creative and visual, this approach enables Sandrina and Michael to explore the world of women by experimenting with different materials, by changing the function of clothes and boldly using the concept of pretence. This very vision of femininity will bring national and international professional recognition and press coverage to the fashion duet (Grand Prix at the International Festival of Fashion Arts at Hyères, in 2003; Weekend Fashion Award, Modo Bruxellae Prize 2006; Mango Fashion Awards’ finalist). Motivated by this professional recognition, they will pursue their creative quest over the seasons and present several collections and projects building up a signature style and a poetic and nostalgic mood. Their first collection was a hit in Japan and Korea and the new collection 2007 is now available in Brussels, Paris, as well as in Japan and the USA.
